Despite the rain clouds that hovered over downtown Aiken on September 20, 2025, spirits remained high as the Aiken Junior Women’s Club (AJWC) rolled up their sleeves and volunteered at the Aiken Downtown Development Association’s (ADDA) annual Oktoberfest celebration. The event, a beloved community tradition, brought together residents and visitors for an evening of food, music, and celebration — rain or shine.

This year’s Oktoberfest saw showers throughout the early afternoon and evening, but that didn’t stop the AJWC from showing up with smiles and umbrellas in hand. The all-women civic group, known for its commitment to service and community improvement, partnered with the ADDA to help run the ID and Token booth.

“Our club believes in supporting the community no matter the weather,” said one AJWC member. “Rain can’t wash away our enthusiasm. Oktoberfest is such a fun event for Aiken, and we were proud to be part of making it happen.”

Throughout the afternoon, AJWC members helped with distribution of ID wristbands during event. Many festival-goers noticed the volunteers’ cheerful presence and appreciated their dedication despite the soggy conditions.

The Oktoberfest event, hosted annually by the ADDA, celebrates German heritage with traditional food, live music, a biergarten, and family-friendly activities. While the rain dampened attendance slightly compared to past years, the festive atmosphere carried on under tents and awnings set up along The Alley and surrounding downtown streets.

“We are so grateful to the Aiken Junior Women’s Club for their help,” said a ADDA Volunteer. In addition to volunteering, the AJWC used the opportunity to promote their mission and upcoming service projects. Passersby were invited to learn more about membership and how to get involved.

Founded in 1965, the Aiken Junior Women’s Club has a long history of civic engagement and leadership development. Their presence at community events like Oktoberfest is part of a broader effort to support Aiken through hands-on service and partnership with local organizations.

“Volunteering at events like this isn’t just about helping things run smoothly,” one AJWC member added. “It’s about being visible, involved, and supportive of the traditions that make Aiken special.”

As the music played and the scent of bratwurst filled the air, the AJWC continued their work with energy and enthusiasm — undeterred by the gray skies. For those who attended, their efforts made a rainy day feel a little bit brighter.
